Forts & Palaces Tour Duration : 17 Days / 16 Nights Destination Covered : Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Alsisar - Jaisalmer - Rohet - Luni - Udaipur - Delhi The princely states of Rajputana, now Rajasthan, were once the domain of courageous warriors and lavish ruling dynasties. Following visits to Delhi and the spectacular Taj Mahal, this journey explores many of the regions magnificent forts and palaces, its most atmospheric cities and the stunning desert scenery. Day 1 To Delhi: Fly from London to Delhi with British Airways. (N) Day 2 Delhi: Very early morning arrival and transfer to the Intercontinental The Grand for 2 nights (including the night of arrival). Morning at leisure. Afternoon tour of Old Delhi including the Red Fort, Jama Masjid Mosque and Raj Ghat. Continue to the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun and the Qutb Minar tower. (B) Day 3 To Agra: Morning tour of New Delhi to see India Gate and the former Viceregal Residence, both fine examples of British Imperial architecture. Afternoon drive to Agra. Stay for 2 nights at the Jaypee Palace / Trident Hilton. (B) Day 4 Agra: Morning visit to the vast Agra Fort and the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah. Afternoon visit to the Taj Mahal. (B) ![]() Day 5 To Jaipur: Drive to Jaipur and stay 2 nights at the Country Inn & Suites / Rajputana Sheraton. En route visit Emperor Akbars deserted 16th century capital city of Fatehpur Sikri. (B) Day 6 Jaipur: Morning visit to the ancient fort palace of Amber. Afternoon tour of the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar astronomical observatory. (B) Day 7 To Alsisar: Drive to Alsisar and stay overnight at Alsisar Mahal / Indra Vilas. Afternoon walking tour of Alsisars havelis. (B) Day 8 To Bikaner: Transfer to Bikaner once a major trade centre on the caravan route linking Central Asia with north India and stay for 1 night at the Bhanwar Niwas. (B) ![]() Day 9 To Jaisalmer: Morning visit to Junagarh Fort then drive to Jaisalmer for a stay of 2 nights at Fort Rajwada / Gorbandh Palace. (B) Day 10 Jaisalmer: Morning tour of Jaisalmer Fort, often referred to as the golden fort due to the colour of its sandstone walls. Afternoon at leisure or optional walking tour of the city (payable locally). (B) Day 11 To Manvar: Drive to Manvar in the Thar Desert. Following a visit to local villages, continue to the tented camp (see p60 for camp details) for an overnight stay amongst the sand dunes. Evening Rajasthani dinner and music at the camp. (B, L, D) Day 12 To Jodhpur: Drive to Jodhpur and visit the majestic Meherangarh Fort. Continue to the village of Rohet / Luni and stay 2 nights at Rohetgarh Fort / Fort Chanwa. (B) Day 13 Rohet / Luni: Morning jeep safari to visit the Bishnoi tribal villages. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 14 To Udaipur: Drive south to the lake city of Udaipur, via the exquisite Jain temples at Ranakpur. Arrive at the Fateh Prakash Palace (Dovecote Room) / Laxmi Vilas Palace this evening and stay for 2 nights. (B) Day 15 Udaipur: Morning tour of the City Palace and Jagdish Temple. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 16 To Delhi: Late morning transfer to the airport and fly to Delhi. Transfer to the Radisson / Grand Hotel where rooms are held until your departure for the airport late this evening. |
